August 28, 2026 — EVERETT, Wash.: The Everett AquaSox walked off the Eugene Emeralds for the second night in a row, scoring the winning run in front of 3,009 fans during the bottom of the 10th inning on a throwing error committed on a pickoff attempt.
Jhonny Level led off the game by doubling for the Emeralds, later scoring the game’s first run as Walker Martin hit an RBI single. Eugene brought home their second run of the game as Hayden Jatczak reached on a run-scoring throwing error. The 2-0 lead held until the bottom of the third inning when Carlos Jimenez dropped an RBI single that scored Carter Dorighi into center field.
AquaSox starting pitcher Colton Shaw settled in after the two-run first inning, allowing zero more runs throughout his outing. Shaw, a Yale alum, departed after tossing 4.1 innings, striking out eight while allowing just two base hits before turning the ball over to right-hander Ben Hernandez.
The Emeralds brought home their third run during the top of the sixth inning, taking a two-run lead again as Robert Hipwell hit an RBI double after Jatczak walked. However, Everett chipped back in the bottom part of the frame, cutting their deficit back down to one run as Aiden Taurek roped an RBI triple after Luke Stevenson walked.
Everett tied the game 3-3 during the bottom of the eighth thanks to efforts from Stevenson, who smashed a solo home run for his 20th long ball of the 2026 season. Keeping the game knotted was right-hander Sam Whiting, who did not allow a run across his first two innings of work to send things to extra innings.
Whiting again held the Emeralds out of the scoring column in the top of the 10th inning, putting the AquaSox in prime position to win the game. Anthony Donofrio started the bottom half of the frame as the ghost runner on second base, later advancing to third as Dorighi laid down a bunt single. Scoring the winning run two at-bats later was Donofrio, who scampered home to end the game as Emeralds pitcher Gerelmi Maldonado committed a throwing error on a pickoff attempt to first base.
With the 4-3 AquaSox victory, Whiting improved his record to 4-0 on the year while lowering his earned run average to 3.82 after a three-inning scoreless outing. Additionally, he struck out six, walked none, and allowed only two hits.
