May 22, 2026 — MINNEAPOLIS: The Minnesota Twins announced today that outfielder Gabriel Gonzalez has been promoted to their major league roster from the Triple-A St. Paul Saints. In correspondence with Gonzalez's call-up, infielder Tristan Gray was placed on the paternity list.
Gonzalez, a 22-year-old native of Carupano, Venezuela, was originally signed by the Seattle Mariners on February 5, 2021. The right-handed hitting outfielder made his professional debut in the 2021 season by suiting up for the Dominican Summer League Mariners, and in 2022 he reached Single-A with the Modesto Nuts.
He returned to the Nuts to begin the 2023 season, later earning a promotion to the High-A Everett AquaSox on July 14 after hitting .348 with 19 doubles and nine home runs across 73 games with Modesto that year. Gonzalez brought his power with him to Everett, hitting nine home runs and four doubles in 43 games with the AquaSox.
Minnesota acquired Gonzalez on January 29, 2024, as a centerpiece in the trade that sent switch-hitting infielder Jorge Polanco to the Mariners. In his first season with Minnesota's minor league system, Gonzalez split time between the Twins' Florida Complex League team and High-A.
2025 was a breakout campaign for Gonzalez as he reached as high as the Triple-A level for the first time in his career. He began the year with the High-A Cedar Rapids Kernels, where he hit .319 with five homers, 12 doubles, and 28 RBIs, before receiving a promotion to the Double-A Wichita Wind Surge. Gonzalez tore up Double-A, hitting .344 with 19 doubles and 15 RBIs before receiving his first taste of Triple-A with the Saints.
Gonzalez wasted no time making a positive impression in St. Paul, hitting .316 with seven doubles, six home runs, and 23 RBIs across 34 games. He returned to the Saints to begin 2026, hitting five doubles and eight homers with 21 RBIs in 44 games before being promoted.
He is expected to debut tonight during the Twins' game against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park, hitting fifth and playing left field in manager Derek Shelton's lineup. With his promotion, Gonzalez is the fourth AquaSox alum to receive their MLB promotion this year, joining Mariners pitcher Nick Davila, Mariners infielder Colt Emerson, and Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Adam Macko.
Following Gonzalez's debut, the AquaSox will have 253 players who have appeared in a major league game.
