Fayetteville, NC - The Fayetteville Woodpeckers (67-53, 35-20 2nd Half) extended their historic winning streak on Wednesday night, sweeping a doubleheader from the Salem RidgeYaks (52-69, 27-29) with 11-4 and 2-1 finals at Segra Stadium. Fayetteville has now won a franchise record nine straight games and 14 of the last 15 to open up a 6.5 game lead in the north division with ten games to play in the regular season.
GAME 1
The Woodpeckers lineup broke the game open quickly when trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning. Seven runs scored, all with two outs, on an RBI single from Arturo Flores, a two-run double by Rashawn Galloway, an RBI single from Kam Durnin and a two-RBI double from Kevin Alvarez. Galloway’s double also marked the first professional hit for the 16th round pick out of Texas State.
Four more runs crossed for Fayetteville in the bottom of the third on a bases-loaded walk, throwing error by the catcher, plus a two-run single from Logan Hughes.
Juan Fraide gave up three of four Salem runs on a pair of homers before the bullpen duo of Tazwell Butler (W, 2-0) and Leomar Rosario combined for the final three innings of the game. Butler struck out a pair over two innings and Rosario did not allow a hit in the top of the seventh.
GAME 2
The back half of the doubleheader was a much lower scoring affair with only six combined hits between the two sides.
Jose Serrano made his first spot start since 2024 when pitching in the Dominican Summer League and delivered for Fayetteville in a pressure spot. The righty from the Dominican Republic went 4.2 scoreless innings, struck out three, and coaxed two double-play balls in an efficient night.
A pair scored in the top of the third for Fayetteville, playing as the road side, when Juan Sierra reached on a fielding error and German Ramirez doubled. Kam Durnin followed up with a sacrifice-fly and Logan Hughes connected for an RBI single.
Hughes’ single stretched the lead to 2-0 and extended his hitting streak to 15 games since his debut in the pros.
Carson Estridge battled control issues with three walks in the sixth, but worked out of trouble on an Andrew Musett flyout to center field that stranded the bases loaded. He loaded the bags again in the bottom of the seventh and allowed a run on a walk to Starlyn Nunez. Brady Thomas (W, 2-0) inherited the bases-loaded jam with two outs and struck out Adonys Guzman to save the game.
