FRISCO, Texas (July 8, 2026) - On Wednesday, the Texas Rangers announced that infielder Frainyer Chavez was named both their June Minor League Player of the Month and Defender of the Month and RHP Austin Roberts was named June Minor League Reliever of the Month in the Rangers farm system.
Chavez, 27, started 25 of Frisco’s 26 games in June and slashed .388/.496/.612/1.108 with five home runs, 17 RBI and more walks (20) than strikeouts (15). Chavez’s .388 batting average led the Texas League in June and is the best individual month by average in the league since August 2024 (min. 100 PA). It is only the fourth time in recorded franchise history (since 2005) that Frisco has had a hitter bat .380 or better over 100 or more plate appearances in a single month and the first since 2008. With his five home runs in June, Chavez now has a career-high 12 this season.
In the field, the Venezuela native posted a .991 fielding percentage with just one error on 106 total defensive chances between shortstop, second base and third base. The distinction is Chavez’s fourth career monthly defender award as a member of the Rangers organization and second of the season, joining Engel Beltre for the most by any Rangers minor leaguer since the system introduced such recognitions in 2009.
Roberts, 27, made nine appearances for the Riders in June and surrendered just four hits and two earned runs across 13.2 innings for a 1.32 ERA. The West Sacramento native struck out 26 of the 53 batters he faced and led all Texas League relievers in punchouts in the month. Roberts’ 49.1 K% was the second best in recorded franchise history for a reliever with at least nine appearances in a single month, trailing just Lisalverto Bonilla’s 51.0% in August 2013.
