Riders left searching for first win in the series

August 21st, 2026

FRISCO, Texas (August 20, 2026) - Despite two big game-tying rallies, the Frisco RoughRiders dropped their second consecutive one-run game to the Wichita Wind Surge, falling 9-8 at Riders Field Wednesday night.

Neither team scored in the first two innings, as Frisco welcomed Jack Leiter back on MLB rehab and he struck out three batters in the first two frames. Then, with one out in the third, Wichita (23-25, 48-67) plated four runs against the Frisco (24-24, 63-53) righty, including a two-run home run from Brandon Winokur.

The Riders responded in the bottom of the third with a Marcus Lee Sang solo home run, before Wichita extended the lead to 6-1 in the fourth with a Marek Houston two-RBI single. Yeison Morrobel blasted a solo shot right after for the RoughRiders and it was 6-2.

Frisco drew the deficit to two in the fifth, but the Wind Surge ballooned the lead back to 8-4 in the sixth and Cory Lewis (2-7) held down the win in the late innings.

Notes to Know:

  • Leiter pitched 3+ innings, surrendered four earned runs, but struck out five in his first RoughRiders appearance since 2023.
  • Lee Sang tied his Double-A career high with his 13th home run of the season.
  • Dylan MacLean pitched bulk relief for Frisco, allowing just two runs across four innings.

After dropping the first three games of the series, the RoughRiders turn to RHP Cole Stasio (1-1, 4.70) in a bullpen game against RHP Ty Langenberg (2-3, 3.64) in a 7:05 p.m. start Friday night at Riders Field.
