Josh Smith expected to begin rehab assignment with RoughRiders

Rangers infielder slated to rehab at Riders Field Saturday

FRISCO, Texas (June 6, 2026) – Texas Rangers second baseman Josh Smith is slated to begin his rehab assignment with the Frisco RoughRiders at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, June 10th, when the RoughRiders face the Springfield Cardinals (Cardinals affiliate) from Riders Field.

Smith was placed on the 10-Day Injured List with a right glute strain on May 5th. 

A Utility Silver Slugger winner in 2024, Smith is in his fifth season with the Rangers. Taking over as the everyday second baseman for Texas this season, the former LSU standout has hit .217/.324/.239/.563 this season in 31 games.  

Between 2024 and 2025, he hit .254/.336/.380/.716 with a 111 OPS+, 23 home runs and 97 RBIs and 23 stolen bases over 293 games. 

A RoughRiders infielder in 2021, he played 30 games, hitting .294/.425/.535/.963 with three home runs and 10 RBIs, walking 18 times to 20 strikeouts. He started the 2022 season with Triple-A Round Rock in 2022 before making his MLB debut with the Rangers on May 30th, 2022.
