FRISCO, Texas (August 1, 2026) - For the third consecutive game, the Frisco RoughRiders fell to the Corpus Christi Hooks, coming up short in a 7-0 loss Saturday night at Riders Field.
Corpus Christi (17-15, 48-53) started stoking the fire in the first inning, scoring three runs off of Frisco (17-15, 56-44) starter D.J. McCarty (0-1) before he could finish the opening frame. Thomas Ireland entered to complete the first and gave the Riders 3.1 scoreless innings before surrendering a run in the fifth, as the Hooks took a 4-0 lead.
Corpus Christi starter Bryce Mayer (4-2) was in a groove with nine strikeouts across six shutout innings. He allowed just three hits and didn’t walk a batter.
The Hooks hung two more runs on the board in the eighth inning with RBI singles from Yamal Encarnacion and Jason Schiavone to build a 6-0 lead. Chase Call landed the final blow with a solo home run in the ninth.
Notes to Know:
- Dylan Dreiling had two of the RoughRiders’ six hits, including a double.
- After a blowup outing Wednesday, Ireland responded with 3.1 innings of two-hit, one-run ball and punched out six Hooks hitters.
In the series finale Sunday, Frisco sends LHP Blake Townsend (3-5, 5.66) to the hill against RHP James Hicks (5-9, 5.17) in a 6:05 p.m. start at Riders Field.
