MIDLAND, Mich. – The Great Lakes Loons (62-45) (26-17) won their fourth straight game, an 8-6 win over the South Bend Cubs (63-44) (24-21) on an 81-degree cloudy Thursday night at Dow Diamond.
- Chuck Davalan for the sixth time this season hit a leadoff home run. He started a four-run first inning with a deep 435 foot solo blast to right field. In the bottom of the fourth, the Dodgers No. 6 prospect went deep again. On a 0-2 pitch, Davalan delivered a 396-foot solo shot.
- Sterling Patick tossed a pro ball career-best 6.1 innings. The left-hander struck out seven and retired eight in a row from the fourth through the sixth inning. Patick permitted only two earned runs, two solo home runs.
- The Loons tallied seven of their eight runs in the first four innings. Samuel Munoz and Mairo Martinus had back-to-back RBI hits in the first. Martinus extended his hitting streak to four games with a two double night. His first drove in two runs in the first.
- A South Bend wild pitch and throwing error led to three runs for Great Lakes. With the bases loaded and two outs in the second inning a wild pitch from Cubs starter Nazier Mule bounced towards the third base dugout. Mule slid towards it and in an attempt to get Jaron Elkins coming across the plate he threw it to the first base dugout.
- The final four runs of the contest were plated by South Bend. Josiah Hartshorn had a two RBI performance with an RBI single in the first and eighth inning. The Cubs started the ninth with three straight hits producing a run, off a Brennan Hudson RBI double. Davis Chastain then entered and earned the final three outs and his fifth save of 2026.
Rounding Things Out
West Michigan was also victorious tonight so Great Lakes remains holding a one-game lead in the Midwest League East Division second half standings.
