MIDLAND, Mich. – Great Lakes Loons (69-51) (33-23) pitching dominated Lansing Lugnuts (53-67) (24-32) hitters in a 7-2 win on a 77-degree sunny Thursday night at Dow Diamond.
- Great Lakes pitching amassed 13 strikeouts, Loons’ starter Brooks Auger struck out six, including five of his six outs gained. Lansing gained their only two runs against Auger. Two walks started the third inning and then Daniel Bucciero lined an RBI double to right field. Breyson Guedez sacrifice fly to center tied the game at 2-2. A fielder’s choice and Auger’s sixth punchout ended the frame.
- Chuck Davalan hit his 22nd home run of the season and his seventh lead-off longball. Davalan’s first-inning homer traveled 375 feet and soared over the right field fence.
- The Loons scored five runs in their final three innings on offense. Eduardo Guerrero and Mairo Martinus each hit a single with two outs in the sixth. Mitch Myers’ attempt to pickoff Martinus sailed high and Great Lakes reclaimed a lead. Davalan and Emil Morales delivered back-to-back singles to start the seventh inning. Jaron Elkins sacrifice fly and Nico Perez’s single grew the lead to 5-2.
- Another Lansing error padded the Loons lead in the eighth. Samuel Munoz and Anson Aroz each walked and a Gio Cueto sacrifice bunt moved them into scoring position. A groundout to first base saw an out at the nearest base but a throw home by Myles Naylor that bounced away from Lugnuts catcher Dylan Fien to plate two runs.
- Cody Morse earned the win with a scoreless sixth inning with two strikeouts. Dilan Figueredo inherited a bases loaded and no outs jam in the seventh. The right-hander earned a strikeout, a 4-2 fielder’s choice and a groundout to third base to leave unscathed.
