MIDLAND, Mich. – The Great Lakes Loons (61-45) (25-17) scored 11 runs, highlighted by a six-run sixth inning in a 11-3 win over the South Bend Cubs (63-43) (24-20) on a 77-degree cloudy Wednesday night at Dow Diamond. The game’s start was delayed an hour and 28 minutes due to rain.
- Eduardo Guerrero matched his career-high with five RBI. The 21-year-old with two outs and the bases loaded in the first inning, hit a three-run bloop single into center field. Alexey Lumpuy dove for it, it was in then out of his glove. Guerrero punctuated a six-run sixth inning with a two-run triple to the wall in right-center field.
- Nico Perez has seven RBI in the first two games of this series with three added tonight in the sixth inning. After the top three in the lineup all reached, Perez lined a ball into right-center field missed by a diving Lumpuy.
- Loons’ pitching walked seven but struck out nine. Nicolas Cruz earned the win with 1.2 scoreless innings and three strikeouts. Great Lakes starter Jacob Frost permitted two runs in his four innings.
- South Bend scored three runs, two on hit by pitches with the bases loaded and a sacrifice fly. The Cubs went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position and 12 left on base.
- Emil Morales for the second straight night delivered an RBI single. The 19-year-old has 12 RBI in nine games in August.
- Eduardo Quintero had a four-reach night. The Dodgers No. 3 prospect brought home two with an double up the left field line.
Rounding Things Out
Cody Morse tossed a scoreless inning tonight. He has four frames in a row with no runs given up, dating back to July 30th.
