MIDLAND, Mich. – The Great Lakes Loons (68-51) (32-23) earned their second shutout win in the last three games with a 2-0 win over the Lansing Lugnuts (53-66) (24-31) on a 69-degree cloudy Wednesday night at Dow Diamond. The contest was delayed one hour due to rain.
- Will Gagnon struck out five over 4.2 innings. The right-hander punched out three in the third inning. Gagnon utilized the curveball as a finisher pitch for his first and fifth strikeout.
- Both teams combined to go 0-for-12 with runners in scoring position. The Loons grabbed a run in the first inning, on a 6-2 fielder’s choice. Eduardo Quintero dove across home and the ball was jutted it of the glove of Bryan Arendt during the tag. Quintero reached second base after an Emil Morales single. The 20-year-old stole third base, his 43rd of 2026.
- Eduardo Quintero also came home in the fifth inning. Emil Morales’ single moved him to second base, a 4-6-3 double play pushed Quintero to third base. Lansing starter Jackson Nove’s wild pitch made it 2-0 Great Lakes.
- Seamus Barrett earned the win. The right-hander earned the final out of the fifth inning with a six-pitch strikeout. A flyout to centerfield and punchout gave the 25-year-old a scoreless inning.
- Maddux Bruns tossed the next 1.1 innings. He worked around two singles in the seventh and stranded runners on the corners.
- Nicolas Cruz struck out three Lugnuts and gathered the final six outs. The final play of the game was Gio Cueto throwing out Jared Davis at second base.
Rounding Things Out
West Michigan lost 5-4 to Peoria today. The Loons now have a 1.5 game lead over the Whitecaps in the Midwest League East Division second half standings. Great Lakes has 11 games remaining this season.
