Join Us for a Day of Remembrance and the 9/11 Memorial Stairclimb at Fluor Field

2:14 PM UTC

Fluor Field will once again serve as a place of remembrance, reflection and community on Saturday, September 12, as the Greenville 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb returns to Downtown Greenville.

This year’s event carries additional significance as communities across the country commemorate the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The Greenville climb honors the 343 New York City firefighters and other first responders who lost their lives that day, while providing participants an opportunity to symbolically complete the journey those heroes were unable to finish.

Those interested in participating in the 2026 Greenville 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb can register or make a donation at nfff.akaraisin.com/ui/greenville26.

Hosted by the Greenville chapter of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, the Memorial Stair Climb has been held at Fluor Field since 2020. Participants climb approximately 2,200 stairs throughout the ballpark, the equivalent of 110 stories and representative of the height of the World Trade Center towers. Each climber carries the badge of a fallen firefighter throughout the climb, and many participating firefighters make the journey in full turnout gear that can weigh as much as 75 pounds.

The event is not a race, but rather a memorial walk focused on honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Firefighters, first responders and members of the general public are all invited to participate, while those who do not climb are encouraged to attend Fluor Field and support the participants from the stands. Registration is required for climbers, but no registration is necessary for spectators.

The Greenville event has grown into one of the largest 9/11 Memorial Stair Climbs in the country. Approximately 800 climbers participated in 2025, helping raise nearly $65,000. Organizers have established a fundraising goal of $75,000 for this year’s event, with proceeds benefiting the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and the FDNY Counseling Services Unit.

Gates at Fluor Field will open at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, with the Opening Ceremony beginning at 8:30 a.m. The climb will begin at approximately 8:45 a.m. and typically takes participants approximately two-and-a-half hours to complete. The event will take place rain or shine.

Participants may bring empty water bottles into Fluor Field for hydration during the climb. Outside food and beverages will not be permitted, with food and beverages available for purchase inside the ballpark. Fluor Field is a cashless facility and its clear bag policy will be in effect.

The Greenville Drive are proud to once again welcome the Upstate community to Fluor Field for this powerful annual tradition and join firefighters, first responders, families and community members in remembering the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

Twenty-five years later, we continue to honor their courage, remember their sacrifice and ensure their legacy is never forgotten.
