LAWRENCEVILLE, Georgia – The Gwinnett Stripers, in conjunction with the Atlanta Braves, have announced that right-hander Robert Suarez will join the Stripers to begin a rehab assignment on Sunday, September 20. That day, the Stripers finish the 2026 season with a 1:05 p.m. game vs. the Indianapolis Indians at Gwinnett Field.
Suarez, 35, is on Atlanta’s 60-day Injured List (right elbow inflammation). He last pitched for the Braves on June 19 vs. Milwaukee, and is 4-0 with a 0.56 ERA, 0.84 WHIP, .184 BAA, and four saves (4-for-5) in 31 games this season.
Across a five-year Major League career with the San Diego Padres (2022-25) and Braves (2026), Suarez is 26-13 with a 2.60 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, .190 BAA, and 81 saves (81-for-99) in 237 games. The two-time National League All-Star (2024-25) has also logged 12 Postseason appearances with the Padres (2022, 2024-25), going 0-1 with a 2.45 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, .241 BAA, and three saves (3-for-4).
Suarez, set to make his Gwinnett debut, will be the 11th different Atlanta Braves player to rehab with the Stripers this year. The list includes catcher Sean Murphy (April 21-May 2, July 24-August 2), right-hander Spencer Strider (April 21-26), shortstop Ha-Seong Kim (May 5-10, July 17-August 1), left-hander Dylan Dodd (May 5-18), catcher Drake Baldwin (June 13-14), left-hander Danny Young (June 30-July 2), right-hander AJ Smith-Shawver (July 11-28), outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. (July 17-26), right-hander Reynaldo Lopez (August 23-September 8), and right-hander Joe Jimenez (September 15-current).
