LAWRENCEVILLE, Georgia – The Gwinnett Stripers (30-29, 68-65) broke a 2-2 tie on a DaShawn Keirsey Jr. two-run double in the seventh inning and defeated the Charlotte Knights (30-29, 72-62) 4-2 on Wednesday night at Gwinnett Field. The series is tied 1-1.
Decisive Plays: Gwinnett got on the board in the bottom of the second inning on a solo home run by Jordan Groshans (1). Charlotte evened things up in the top of the fourth with an RBI single from Michael Turner. The Stripers pushed ahead once more in the fifth, thanks to a fantastic slide at home by Brett Wisely on a fielder's choice off the bat of Maverick Handley, making it 2-1. Once again, the Knights tied the game on a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth for a 2-2 deadlock. In the bottom of the seventh with two runners on, Keirsey Jr. stroked a two-run double into the right-center gap for a 4-2 Stripers lead. James Karinchak (W, 3-3) and Joel Payamps (S, 2) combined for 3.0 scoreless innings to finish the game.
Key Contributors: Keirsey Jr. (1-for-3, double, 2 RBIs) drove in the winning runs for Gwinnett, while Groshans (2-for-2, homer, RBI) had a multi-hit game before exiting in the sixth. Stripers’ starter Brett Sears allowed just two runs over 6.0 innings but earned a no-decision in his first career Triple-A quality start. Turner went 1-for-3 with two RBIs for Charlotte.
Noteworthy: Sears and Owen Murphy each have tossed quality starts to begin the series. Groshans' solo homer – his first in Triple-A this season – was his 31st overall of 2026. The game lasted just 1:57, Gwinnett’s shortest nine-inning home game this season.
