LAWRENCEVILLE, Georgia – Brett Wisely’s walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th inning capped off a late three-run comeback as the Gwinnett Stripers (37-36, 75-72) shocked the Indianapolis Indians 8-7 on Friday night at Gwinnett Field. Though trailing 3-1 in the series, the Stripers have secured a winning record for 2026 at 75-72 with two games remaining.
Decisive Plays: The Indians led 5-2 halfway through the sixth before the Stripers started to find clutch hits. In the bottom of the sixth, an RBI double from Rowdy Tellez and a David McCabe RBI single made it a one-run game at 5-4. Indianapolis extended the lead to 6-4 in the seventh, but Jordan Groshans answered with his second home run of the week – a solo blast (3) in the bottom of the eighth – to pull Gwinnett within one at 6-5. The Indians went back up by two at 7-5 in the top of the ninth, but the Stripers were not finished. In the bottom of the ninth, Jim Jarvis and Jose Azocar each produced RBI singles to deadlock the score at 7-7. James Karinchak (W, 4-3) tossed a scoreless 10th inning to set the stage for the walk-off. With the bases loaded and two outs, Wisely delivered with a single into shallow left field off Michael Darrell-Hicks (L, 1-1) to win it 8-7.
Key Contributors: Wisely (1-for-1, GWRBI) delivered the final blow and Azocar (3-for-5, 2 RBIs) tied the game in the ninth. Groshans (2-for-5, homer, RBI) and Jarvis (1-for-5, RBI) also had key hits. For Indianapolis, Nick Cimillo (1-for-2, homer, 4 RBIs) had a two-run blast and a pair of sacrifice flies to raise his RBI total to 13 for the week.
Noteworthy: The Stripers recorded their sixth walk-off win at Gwinnett Field this season. It was their 29th comeback win, securing Gwinnett’s first winning season since 2021. Wisely continued his hot week, as he is now 7-for-13 with a homer and three RBIs in the final series of the year. For Indianapolis, the loss prevented them from taking sole possession of first place in the International League second half standings with two games remaining.
