Hill's Power Surge Continues But Yard Goats Fall at Binghamton

BINGHAMTON, NY - GJ Hill continued his power surge, slugging his 13th home run of the season, but it wasn't enough, as the Binghamton Rumble Ponies downed the Hartford Yard Goats, 6-3, Tuesday night in the first game of a six-game series at Mirabito Stadium. Roc Riggio and Aiden Longwell each added two hits to Hartford's seven-hit attack.

The Yard Goats took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Jack O'Dowd but left the bases loaded. Marco Vargas quickly tied the game in the bottom of the first with a solo homer off the video board in right center, his first round-tripper at the AA level. 

Binghamton snapped the tie in the third inning against Hartford starter Fisher Jameson on a RBI-double by the EL's reigning Player of the Week, Mitch Voit, and a run-scoring single by Vargas. 

Hill tied it in the fourth with a two-run homer over the wall in right center off reliever Cristofer Gomez. The Rumble Ponies came back in their half of the fourth, after Jameson retired the first two batters. A walk and single led to Jameson's departure, but Voit greeted reliever Hunter Mann, making his Yard Goats debut, with a run-scoring double off the wall in left, giving Binghamton the lead for good. The Ponies tacked on two insurance runs in the seventh on a two-run single by Jacob Reimer. 

Game two of the series is Wednesday night at 6:07 PM. The game will be broadcast on the free Audacy App, iHeartRadio app, Yard Goats website and streamed on MiLB.TV. The Yard Goats return to Dunkin' Park on August 11th to face the Detroit Tigers affiliate, the Erie SeaWolves.
