SeaWolves Come From Behind to Defeat Yard Goats

Hartford, CT - The Hartford Yard Goats fell to the Detroit Tigers affiliate, the Erie SeaWolves, 5-2 on Tuesday night at Dunkin' Park. Hartford built an early 2-0 lead before Erie rallied for five unanswered runs to take the series opener. Andrew Jenkins delivered a go-ahead two-run double giving the SeaWolves the lead in the sixth inning. Braylen Wimmer and Mike Antico drove in runs for the Yard Goats, while Cade Denton delivered 3.2 strong innings of relief, striking out five and retiring 10 of the 13 batters he faced. Six Erie pitchers held Hartford to just two runs.
Hartford struck first in the second inning when Braylen Wimmer ripped a triple off the wall in right-center field. Wimmer came around to score on Zach Kokoska's sacrifice fly to right field, giving the Yard Goats a 1-0 lead.
The Yard Goats added to their advantage in the fourth inning. Andy Perez singled to reach base before Mike Antico followed with an RBI infield single, scoring Perez to extend Hartford's lead to 2-0.
Erie answered in the fifth inning when Peyton Graham scored on Zyhir Hope's groundout to third base, cutting Hartford's lead to 2-1.
The SeaWolves took the lead in the sixth inning. Andrew Jenkins lined a two-run double into deep right field, scoring Woody Hadeen and Thayron Liranzo to put Erie ahead 3-2.
Erie added two insurance runs in the seventh inning. Peyton Graham reached on a fielder's choice, and Roberto Campos scored on a throwing error by Hartford shortstop Andy Perez. Woody Hadeen then grounded out to first base, allowing Seth Stephenson to score and extending the SeaWolves' lead to 5-2.
Hartford starter Sam Weatherly tossed two scoreless innings to open the game, allowing no hits while striking out three. Denton followed with 3.2 innings of relief, allowing just one run while striking out five and retiring 10 of the 13 batters he faced.
The Yard Goats were unable to generate any further offense against a strong Erie bullpen as the SeaWolves secured the 5-2 victory.
