Yard Goats Fall to Fisher Cats on Sunday, But Win Series

Hartford, CT –The Hartford Yard Goats fell to the Toronto Blue Jays affiliate, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 6-0, in front of 6,295 fans on Sunday afternoon at Dunkin' Park. Despite the loss, Hartford won the six-game series against New Hampshire. Fisher Cats starter Jackson Wentworth and the New Hampshire pitching staff shut down the Yard Goats offense, while Victor Arias drove in four runs with a three-run home run and an RBI single. Hartford starter Connor Staine pitched six innings, and struck out six batters. The Yard Goats begin a six-game road trip on Tuesday in Binghamton, New York and return to Dunkin’ Park on Tuesday, August 11th to host the Erie Seawolves. New Hampshire struck first in the opening inning when Victor Arias hit an RBI single to left-center field, scoring Carter Cunningham to give the Fisher Cats a 1-0 lead against Connor Staine. The Fisher Cats extended their advantage in the third inning when Arias hit a three-run home run to right field, scoring three runs and putting New Hampshire ahead 4-0.New Hampshire added two more runs in the eighth inning. Arjun Nimmala and Arias both scored when Dub Gleed doubled to left field, extending the Fisher Cats' lead to 6-0.Staine completed six innings for Hartford, striking out six and retiring 17 batters. Yard Goats reliever Austin Smith kept New Hampshire off the scoreboard after entering the game, allowing no hits and no runs.The Yard Goats could not generate any offense against the Fisher Cats pitching staff, as New Hampshire completed the 6-0 shutout victory. Jackson Wentworth started and fired six scoreless innings, while three relievers finished the game. Despite Sunday's loss, the Yard Goats won the series.The Yard Goats are on the road to New York to take on the New York Mets’ affiliate, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, for a six-game series starting Tuesday night. The Goats will be back in Dunkin’ Park on August 11th to face the Detroit Tigers’ affiliate, the Erie SeaWolves.
