Yard Goats Lefty Stu Flesland III Terrific Again
Binghamton, NY- Yard Goats starter Stu Flesland took a no-hitter into the seventh inning but the Binghamton Rumble Ponies got a run in the eighth inning to beat Hartford 1-0 on Friday night at Mirabito Stadium in Binghamton, New York. Flesland fired seven scoreless innings and allowed only one hit, and one walk with seven strikeouts. Kevin Parada doubled home John Bay in the eighth for the only run of the game sending the Yard Goats to a season-high fifth straight loss. The Yard Goats continue the road trip tomorrow night at 6:07 PM and the Yard Goats return home next Tuesday to host the Detroit Tigers affiliate, the Erie Seawolves at Dunkin’ Park.
Yard Goats starter Stu Flesland III retired the first nine batters to come to the plate and struck out the side in the second inning. The lefty had six strikeouts over the first three innings and allowed just one base-runner over the first six innings, a leadoff walk in the fourth inning. Flesland retired 18 of the first 19 batters faced in his second start against Binghamton.
Rumble Ponies starter Noah Hall was equally as tough and permitted just two hits over six shutout innings. The Yard Goats had a first inning opportunity as Dyan Jorge singled and stole second base. However, with the Eastern League leader in hits at the plate, Jorge was erased trying to steal third base. The other chances to score came on a leadoff walk in the second inning and a two-out double by Cole Messina in the fifth inning.
The game was scoreless over six innings and Flesland took a no-hitter into the seventh inning. Marco Vargas led off the seventh with a single to left field to end the bid. Emilien Pitre reached on a fielder’s choice to put runners at first and second. Then, Flesland got a double play liner by Jefferson Rojas and retired Jacob Reimer his final batter of the night.
Reliever Carlos Torres was reached for a leadoff single by John Bay in the eighth inning. Next, Kevin Parada doubled to the right field fence, and Bay scored from first base giving the Rumble Ponies a 1-0 lead.
Saul Rivera worked around a one-out walk in the ninth to earn the save.
The Yard Goats continue the road trip on Saturday night (6:07 PM) against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies at Mirabito Stadium in Binghamton, New York.
