Yard Goats Two Homers Not Enough in Road Trip Finale
Binghamton, NY- Jimmy Obertop and Andy Perez each hit solo home runs but the Yard Goats fell to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies 4-3 on Sunday afternoon at Mirabito Stadium in Binghamton, New York. Binghamton’s Billy Amick’s go-ahead three run homer in the sixth inning proved to be the difference as the Mets affiliate swept the Yard Goats in a six-game series. The Yard Goats return to Dunkin’ Park on Tuesday to host the Detroit Tigers affiliate, the Erie Seawolves.
The Yard Goats scored the first run of the game in the third inning as Jimmy Obertop cranked a solo home run off Binghamton starter Channing Austin. Obertop’s fourth homer of the season landed just to the right of the batter’s eye in center field.
The Rumble Ponies tied the game in the fifth on a solo home run off Yard Goats starter Connor Staine. Kevin Parada cracked a solo shot with two outs in the fifth inning, his second of the season, to make it 1-1.
Yard Goats starter Connor Staine turned in another solid outing, going five innings and allowing just one run with a walk and two strikeouts. He retired the side in order in the second and fourth innings and left a 1-1 game after five full innings.
Binghamton took a 4-1 lead in the sixth inning when Billy Amick hit a three-run homer off reliever Hunter Mann.
Hartford made it a 4-3 with a pair of runs in the seventh inning off the Rumble Ponies bullpen. Andy Perez led off with a home run and after Braylen Wimmer doubled he eventually scored on a throwing error to make it a one-run game. The Yard Goats had a runner at third base with one out but could not tie the game.
The Yard Goats return to Dunkin’ Park on Tuesday to host the Detroit Tigers affiliate, the Erie Seawolves. The game will be broadcast on the free Audacy App, iHeartRadio app, Yard Goats website and streamed on MiLB.TV.
