Yard Goats Winning Streak Snapped in Loss to Fightin Phils

Hartford, CT - The Hartford Yard Goats fell to the Reading Fightin Phils 5-3 on Wednesday night at Dunkin’ Park. The game was tied 3-3 through seven innings but the Fightin Phils scored two runs on a pair of RBI-hits from Carson DeMartini and Aroon Escobar in the top of the eighth to take a 5-3 lead. The Yard Goats trailed 5-3 heading to the bottom of the ninth and brought the potential tying run to the plate but could not capitalize as the loss snapped Hartford’s four-game winning streak. Yard Goats starter Bryson Hammer allowed just one run on two hits while striking out five in five innings. Andy Perez had two hits and leads the Eastern League with a franchise-record 144 this season.
Reading got on the board first in the top of the first when Raider Tello hit an RBI sac-fly off Hammer, giving the Fightin Phils a 1-0 lead.
The Yard Goats answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the first when Jack O’Dowd lined an RBI-single to left field off Reading starter Evan Gates, tying the game at 1-1.
Hartford took the lead as they scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Zach Kokoska started things off with an RBI-infield single, giving the Yard Goats a 2-1 lead. Then, Jacob Humphrey scored on a bases loaded walk, extending Hartford’s lead to 3-1.
Reading responded with two runs in the top of the seventh when Bryson Ware hit a two-run home run, his 14th of the season, tying the game at 3-3.
The Fightin Phils scored two runs to take the lead in the top of the eighth. DeMartini hit an RBI-double which gave Reading a 4-3 lead, before Escobar hit an RBI-single to extend the Fightin Phils lead to 5-3.
The Yard Goats continue their six game series against the Reading Fightin Phils on Thursday night at 6:30 pm.
