Hillsboro, OR (September 6, 2026)- After three straight one-run losses to the Eugene Emeralds, the Hillsboro Hops made sure their final meeting of the season ended differently. Yassel Soler delivered a two-run walk-off double in the bottom of the ninth inning Sunday, sending Abdias De La Cruz and Kayson Cunningham across the plate as the Hops rallied for a 7-6 victory in Game 132 and closed out the season with a celebration at Hops Ballpark. Soler’s hit capped a three-run ninth-inning rally and gave him his third walk off hit of the season.
The Emeralds struck first with a run in the opening inning after a walk issued by Caden Grice with the bases loaded. Grice was chased from the game after recording just two outs, but Eugene wouldn’t score again in the first. Eugene regained control with a four-run third inning, highlighted by Charlie Muniz’s first affiliated professional home run, a three-run homer that made it 5-0.
Hillsboro got on the board in the bottom of the third inning for the first time on Sunday when Abdias De La Cruz sent a tape measure shot to left field, his fourth home run of the season.
Hillsboro put together a rally in the fifth inning with three runs to pull within one. Kayson Cunningham had an RBI single, Chris Katz had an RBI single and Yassel Soler had an RBI on a groundout to make it 5-4. The Hops then remained within striking distance until their ninth-inning eruption.
The Hops entered the ninth trailing 6-4, but quickly put the tying and winning runs in motion. Cunningham singled and De La Cruz drew a walk before Soler stepped to the plate against Alix Hernandez. Soler who already had two walk-off home runs in 2026 added to his totals in 2026 in the final at-bat of the season. Soler lifted a soft fly ball toward left field that dropped in front of Walker Martin. De La Cruz raced home from second, Cunningham followed from first, and the Hops spilled out of the dugout as the winning run crossed the plate. Soler finished with three RBI and six total bases, going 3-for-5 with a double and a triple. His three-RBI performance pushed his season total to 71.
The Hops collected 12 hits in the victory, with Soler leading the way. Wallace Clark and Kayson Cunningham each added multiple hits, while De La Cruz contributed his home run. Carlos Virahonda added an RBI sacrifice fly during the ninth-inning rally.
On the mound, Rocco Reid worked 2⅔ innings and struck out three while allowing one run. Joangel Gonzalez entered the game in the first inning for Hillsboro and worked 2⅓ innings, and the Hops bullpen kept Eugene within reach after the early deficit. Rocco Reid struck out three of the 12 batters he faced over 2.1 innings and Luke Dotson pitched 1.2 shutout innings following the left-hander. Kyle Ayers then came in and tossed two scoreless innings while picking up his seventh win of the season in the contest.
Hillsboro finished the afternoon 3-for-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven runners on base. Eugene went 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position and stranded 14.
The 7-6 victory gave the Hops a fitting finish to their 132-game season: a one-run game against Eugene that finally went their way. With Soler’s walk-off double, the Hops sent their fans home happy one final time in 2026.
