Wappingers Falls, N.Y. – The Hudson Valley Renegades grabbed their seventh walk-off win of the season, beating Wilmington 3-2 at Heritage Financial Park on Tuesday night on a walk-off home run by Maika Niu.
Hudson Valley has had seven-or-more walk offs in a season three times since becoming an affiliate of the New York Yankees (also 2021, 2024).
This is the Renegades’ first walk-off win for the Renegades since 7/7 when Enmanuel Tejeda hit a groundball which resulted in a Rome Emperors error allowing the winning run to score.
Hudson Valley has hit four walk-off home runs this season (two by Kyle West, one each by Kaeden Kent and Maika Niu).
The Renegades improved to 22-21 in the second half of the season and are above the .500 mark in the half for the first time since 8/1. The Renegades also improved to 13-15 in one-run games in 2026.
The Renegades scored two runs on three hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. They then only grabbed one hit from innings sixth through eighth innings.
Hudson Valley pitching allowed just one hit from the seventh inning on. It also walked just one batter.
The Renegades move to 8-11 overall against Wilmington, 5-8 against them at home, and 7-6 in the second half.
Hudson Valley has won four straight games for the first time since winning five in a row from 7/4-9.
After going 29-for-29 on stolen base attempts in the series at Greenville last week the Renegades did not attempt a stolen base on Tuesday.
RHP Luis Gil (1.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K) made his first appearance on a Minor League rehab assignment.
Gil made his first appearance since 4/26 at Houston with the New York Yankees.
Gil worked around two early hits to keep his final line clean.
LHP Franyer Herrera (6.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 1 HR) struck out five and allowed two runs across 6.0 innings out of the bullpen backing up Gil’s rehab start.
Herrera has allowed exactly two earned runs in three of his last five outings.
Herrera made his fourth piggyback appearance of the season. In those appearances, he’s allowed 12 ER over 21.0 IP.
Herrera has struck out five-or-more batters in three of his last four appearances.
Herrera walked one batter for the first time since 6/28 at Bowling Green. It was just his sixth time this season walking one-or-fewer batters.
This was the second 6.0 inning relief outing for Herrera this season (also 6/21 at Rome). Before this no Renegades pitcher had thrown 6.0 innings in relief since Blas Castano on 6/17/22 at Greensboro.
CF Maika Niu (1-for-4, HR, R, RBI, K) ripped a walk-off homer in his first game at Heritage Financial Park.
Niu has hit a go-ahead home run in back-to-back games.
In his first four professional games, Niu is 6-for-18, 4 R, 1 2B, 2 HR, 8 RBIs.
C Eric Genther (1-for-4, 2B) extended his on-base streak to nine games.
Over the streak, Genther is batting .308/.471/.538 with a 1.009 OPS, 3 2B, HR, 9 R, 5 RBI, 7 BB, 6 K.
2B Enmanuel Tejeda (2-for-2, R, BB) got on base every time he came up to the plate for the first time this season with the Renegades.
Tejeda grabbed his 10th multi-hit performance of the year in High-A and his third in the month of August.
3B Bryce Martin-Grudzielanek (0-for-2, R, HBP) has gotten on base in all seven games played with the Renegades.
LF Dean Toigo (1-for-3, RBI) has RBIs in three of his four games played after being assigned to the Renegades last week.
Toigo also has hits in all four games played, batting .353/.389/.529 with 2B, 3B, 3 R, 4 RBI, BB, 4 K.
RF Willy Montero (0-for-2, RBI) has RBIs in three of his last five games played.
