Wappingers Falls, NY – The Hudson Valley Renegades lost a doubleheader to the Jersey Shore BlueClaws on Thursday night at Heritage Financial Park, falling 2-1 in the first game and 6-4 in the second.
This was the third doubleheader played by the Renegades in the last 10 days, and they have one more upcoming on Saturday, Aug. 1. It was the first time this season that the Renegades have been swept in a doubleheader. Of the six doubleheaders that they have played this season, they have swept two, have split three, and have been swept once.
The Renegades led 1-0 in game two through four innings behind four perfect innings from starter Henry Lalane. They then led 4-2 through six innings in game two. Jersey Shore scored seven total runs from innings five on.
Jersey Shore starter Cody Bowker recorded strikeouts for six of his first nine outs recorded. BlueClaws pitching ended with 10 strikeouts in game one and 14 in game two.
In game one, Hudson Valley had four hits through three innings but could only grab three more for the rest of the game.
Hudson Valley had the tying run at third base with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning. Batter Willy Montero lined one into right field for out two, and baserunner Kyle West got cut down at home plate trying to tag from third to end the game.
In game two, the Renegades had the winning run at the plate with one out in the bottom of the seventh. BlueClaws reliever Marty Gair struck out the next two batters he faced.
Three Renegades (Jackson Lovich, Willy Montero and Gabriel Lara) made their High-A debut in the doubleheader, and six BlueClaws made their High-A debuts.
Hudson Valley is 6-8 overall against Jersey Shore, 4-4 at Heritage Financial Park, and 0-2 in the second half.
LHP Henry Lalane (6.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 1 HR) threw four perfect innings to begin his third High-A start. It was the longest start he has had with Hudson Valley and the first time he pitched beyond 4.2 innings.
This was the first time with the Renegades that Lalane allowed fewer than two runs, although he did allow a home run for his third straight start.
Lalane walked multiple batters in a game for the first time in High-A this season.
Lalane has struck out 17 batters through three starts.
LHP Franyer Herrera (4.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 K) matched Lalane by not allowing a hit through four innings in the nightcap.
Herrera has allowed 2 ER in three straight starts and has only allowed more than 2 ER in one of his last six outings.
Herrera has walked multiple batters in his last four starts.
Herrera struck out more than five batters for the first time since 6/28 at Bowling Green. He has only done so on six occasions this season.
C/DH Eric Genther (3-for-6, 2 2B, 2 HBP) ripped a double in each game of the doubleheader, extending his on-base streak to five games.
Genther got hit by a pitch for the 23rd and 24th times this season. He’s tied with Jacob McCombs (Cedar Rapids, A+, MIN) for the most in MiLB.
Genther’s two doubles increased his season total to 14. He has the third most on the team behind Camden Troyer (15) and Roderick Arias (15).
1B Kyle West (1-for-7, RBI, HBP, 4 K) extended his hitting streak to four games in game one, but saw it end in game two.
West is slashing .267/.353/.467 over the stretch with HR, 3 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 6 K.
SS Jackson Lovich (3-for-8, R, RBI, 4 K) grabbed hits in both games of the doubleheader in his first two High-A games of his career.
Lovich has 24 multi-hit performances this season, 23 of which came with Single-A Tampa.
CF/RF Camden Troyer (3-for-6, 2B, 2 R, K) extended his team long hitting and on-base streaks to seven games.
Over the streaks, Troyer is hitting .524/.577/.571 with a 1.148 OPS, 2B, 6 R, 3 RBI, 4 BB, 1 K, 2/2 SB.
RHP Wilmy Sanchez (0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K) has not allowed a run to score in six straight outings.
RHP Hansel Rincon (1.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K) allowed an earned run to score for just the third time in his last 19 appearances.
RHP Jackson Fristoe (0.1 IP, 1 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 0 K) made his first appearances since 5/29 vs. Bowling Green.
