Lakewood, N.J. (Aug. 23, 2026) – The Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the Jersey Shore BlueClaws 5-4 on Sunday afternoon at ShoreTown Ballpark to complete a six-game series sweep.
This was the first six-game sweep by the Renegades of the season and their first since sweeping the Wilmington Blue Rocks in a six-game set at Heritage Financial Park from April 15-20, 2025. It is just the fifth six-or-more game series sweep by the Renegades since the new schedule format debuted in 2021.
The Renegades have two six-game sweeps on the road in that time, both coming at ShoreTown Ballpark.
The win for the Renegades extended their winning streak to eight straight games, their longest winning streak since 2022 when the team won nine in a row since July 2-12, 2022, which also included a six-game road sweep of the BlueClaws.
The Renegades have won 13 of their last 15 games, their best 15-game stretch of the season. Hudson Valley has won nine straight road games as part of this streak.
The win brought the Renegades to four games over .500 on the season for the first time since they defeated Winston-Salem 5-2 on 5/10. The high-water mark for the Renegades this season is six games over .500.
The Renegades improved to 31-23 in the second half, already surpassing their first half win total.
The Renegades won three games this week by two-or-fewer runs, including back-to-back one-run wins on Saturday and Sunday.
The Renegades finish the season series with the BlueClaws with a 13-11 record.
Renegades starting pitchers have thrown a combined 20.2 IP, 10 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 7 BB, 18 K in the last four games.
LHP Franyer Herrera (6.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K) struck out four batters across six innings as he turned in his fourth quality start of the season.
This was the fourth time this season that Herrera completed 6.0 innings in a start, and his second time doing so in his last three outings.
Herrera recorded his 100th strikeout of the season with his strikeout of Scott Mudler in the fifth inning. He became the third Renegades pitcher this season to reach the 100 strikeout plateau, joining Luis Serna (121) and Allen Facundo (111).
The Renegades have had three 100-strikeout pitchers on the staff two times in team history, with the only other occurrence coming in 2023 with the trio of Drew Thorpe (138), Zach Messinger (113) and Juan Carela (109).
Herrera joins Serna and Facundo in the top 10 in strikeouts in the SAL this season. The Renegades are the only team with three players ranking in the top 10 in the league in strikeouts.
Herrera allowed his 17th home run of the season to TJayy Walton in the bottom of the fourth, the most allowed in a season by a Renegades pitcher.
DH Eric Genther (1-for-3, R, HR, RBI, BB) hit his 14th home run of the season in the top of the seventh inning to provide what would end up being the winning run.
Genther’s 14 home runs are the most hit in a season by a Renegades catcher since Josh Breaux hit 17 in 2021.
Genther is up to 65 RBIs on the season, second most on the team behind Kyle West (71) and third most in a single-season by a player in Renegades history.
CF Maika Niu (1-for-4, R, HR, 3 RBI) hit a three-run home run in the first inning to give the Renegades an early lead that they would never relinquish.
The blast was the first home run hit by Niu before the ninth inning of a game. His first three home runs came in the ninth (2) and 12th (1) innings.
RF Dean Toigo (2-for-4, R, 3B) had his fourth career multi hit game in only 11 games played.
SS Jackson Lovich (2-for-4, R) had a two-hit game to improve his average to .333 in his time with the Renegades.
1B Kyle West (2-for-3, R, BB) had his 26th multi-hit game of the year.
RHP Wilmy Sanchez (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K) earned his team-leading sixth save of the year with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
