NASHVILLE, Tenn. – In his first game back after losing 43 games to the injured list, Nick Yorke launched a go-ahead, seventh-inning home run for his first long ball of the season, but the Nashville Sounds got the last laugh as they beat the Indianapolis Indians, 6-5, on Tuesday night at First Horizon Park.
The Indians (25-15, 56-59) took an early one-run lead in the first inning after stringing together four straight singles by Yorke, Billy Cook, Johnathan Rodríguez and Tyler Callihan, with Callihan providing the RBI knock. Nashville (20-20, 63-52) responded immediately in the bottom frame, taking a 2-1 lead as Luis Matos shot a line-drive single over the head of a leaping Yorke. Bo Naylor and MLB rehabber Sal Frelick scored on the hit.
In the fourth inning, Derek Berg extended his hitting streak to five games, collecting an RBI single and tying the contest, 2-2. Eduardo Garcia snatched the lead right back in the bottom frame with a two-RBI single, pushing the Sounds ahead, 4-2.
Cook inched the Indians closer, 4-3, with one swing of the bat, clobbering a 418-foot solo home run in the fifth inning.
In the seventh inning, Dominic Fletcher laid the groundwork for the third lead change of the night, dropping a ball right next to the right field foul line in fair territory for a double. Yorke, who just barely missed a home run in his last at-bat to foul territory in deep left field, rocketed a two-run long ball to left-center field for an Indians 5-4 lead.
Akil Baddoo claimed the fifth RBI single of the night between both clubs, knotting up the game, 5-5, in the bottom frame. He was the hero of tonight's contest for the Sounds, as Baddoo delivered the final blow in the ninth inning with a walk-off single off Noah Murdock (L, 0-2). Blake Holub (W, 4-2) earned the win.
The Indians look to bounce back behind RHP Antwone Kelly (5-5, 4.24), who will face Nashville’s LHP Colton Gordon (6-5, 3.98) at 7:35 PM ET on Wednesday night.
