The Indianapolis Indians lost to the Nashville Sounds 9-1 on Friday night at First Horizon Park. LHP Cy Nielson made his AAA debut with Indianapolis entering the game in the bottom of the fifth inning and went 3.0 innings without giving up a hit and recorded one strikeout. Nashville scored all of its runs in the first three innings and starting pitcher Coleman Crow (W, 7-1) went 6.2 innings and only gave up two hits against the Indians bats.
Indians (27-16, 58-60) infielder Enmanuel Valdez went 2-for-4 with his 15th home run of the season.
In the bottom of the first inning, Sounds (21-22, 64-54) catcher Bo Naylor hit his eighth home run of the season to center field to give Nashville an early 2-0 lead. Sounds infielder Ethan Murray blooped a single to right field and doubled the lead in the first inning to 4-0.
Naylor homerd his second time up to right field in the second inning to make it 5-0 Nashville. Naylor finished the night going 2-for-5. Nashville added three more runs in the third inning to extend the lead to 9-0 and was more than enough to hold off any Indianapolis rally on Friday night.
Noah Davis (L, 2-9) got the start on the mound for Indy and went 4.0 innings and struck out four batters before turning the ball over to RHP Derek Diamond, who exited the game in the bottom of the fifth inning after throwing only nine pitches.
The six-game series between Indianapolis and Nashville continues Saturday night at 7:35 PM ET. LHP Hunter Barco (4-6, 4.12) is scheduled to start for the Indians and RHP Brandon Sproat (0-1, 13.50) will take the mound for Nashville.
