INDIANAPOLIS – The Pittsburgh Pirates announced on Monday that outfielder/first baseman Ryan O’Hearn will begin a major league rehab assignment with the Indianapolis Indians as the team is set to begin a six-game homestand, Indy’s final six games at Victory Field this season, vs. the Omaha Storm Chasers (Triple-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals) on Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 6:35 PM ET. O’Hearn would become the ninth MLB rehabber assigned to Indy this season following right-handed pitcher Jared Jones, catcher Joey Bart, right-handed pitcher Wilber Dotel, catcher/first baseman Endy Rodríguez, left-handed pitcher Evan Sisk, right-handed pitcher Chris Devenski, outfielder Oneil Cruz and shortstop Konnor Griffin.
O’Hearn, 33, was placed on the 10-day injured list by Pittsburgh on Aug. 1 with a left quad strain.
O’Hearn was signed by Pittsburgh on Jan. 8, 2026, as a free agent to a two-year, $29 million contract. He has been one of the top contributors to the Pirates offense on the campaign hitting .270 (97-for-359) with a career-high tying 17 home runs and career-high 69 RBI across 96 games.
The veteran player is in his ninth MLB season, appearing for Kansas City, Baltimore, San Diego and Pittsburgh. He was originally selected by Kansas City in the eighth round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft from Sam Houston State (Huntsville, Texas).
