
The Iowa Cubs (28-38, 58-80) defeated the Toledo Mud Hens (68-72, 34-32) 9-3 on Friday night at Principal Park.
Iowa got on the board first with one run in the first inning on an RBI single from Chas McCormick. The I-Cubs added to their lead in the third inning when Owen Miller drove in another run on an RBI single. Toledo cut the Iowa lead in half with one run in the fifth inning to make it a 2-1 game.
Iowa exploded for five runs in the seventh inning. Kevin Alcantara hit a three-run home run, his 20th of the season, and James Triantos extended the lead with a two-run double to give the I-Cubs a 7-1 lead. They would go on to score two more runs in the eighth inning on an RBI single from Owen Ayers.
Toledo hit a two-run home run in the ninth inning to close the scoring. Braxton Garrett earned the victory after pitching five innings and allowing no earned runs. Gavin Hollowell, Jayden Murray, and Gabe Klobosits combined to throw 3.0 scoreless innings of relief out of the bullpen.
