I-CUBS WIN THIRD IN A ROW OVER ST. PAUL

The Iowa Cubs (18-24, 48-66) blasted five home runs as they defeated the St. Paul Saints (24-18, 66-50) 10-3 on Thursday evening at Principal Park.

St. Paul scored one in the first inning to take the lead. Iowa erupted for six runs in the first inning. All runs scored came with two outs and the Cubs hit three home runs. Owen Miller and Ben Cowles hit back-to-back home runs, highlighted by a three-run shot from Cowles. Ethan Hearn hit Iowa’s third home run of the inning and Justin Dean added another run on an RBI single to cap off the big inning for the I-Cubs. 

Iowa would add another run in the second inning on an RBI single from Cowles. Greg Jones and Cowles hit Iowa’s second set of back-to-back home runs of the game in the fifth inning to extend their lead to 9-1. The I-Cubs would add another run in the sixth inning on a bases-loaded walk drawn by Hearn.

St. Paul scored two more runs in the eighth inning to close the scoring.

Iowa reliever Evan Taylor earned his first Triple-A win with two scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Starting pitcher Kohl Franklin threw 4.0 innings, allowing just one run in his first appearance at Principal Park.
