On the back of four home runs, the Iowa Cubs (46-66) earned a 6-3 win over the St. Paul Saints (66-48) tonight at the Field of Dreams in Dyersville, Iowa.
The Saints opened the scoring in the first inning on a solo home run but Iowa tied the contest at 1-1 in the third on a Greg Jones home run.
St. Paul took a 2-1 advantage in the fifth, but the I-Cubs exploded for five runs in the bottom half of fifth. Ben Cowles and Jordan Nwogu hit back-to-back homers and BJ Murray hit a three-run shot to make it 6-2 I-Cubs.
The Saints put up another run in the seventh to cut the lead to 6-3, but Iowa held on for the win.
Iowa will play at Principal Park on Wednesday for the second of a six-game series with first pitch slated for 6:38 p.m. CT.
