JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp outfielder Matthew Etzel has been named the International League Player of the Week for August 25-30, Minor League Baseball announced Monday.
In five games against Nashville, Etzel went 7-for-18 (.389) with two doubles, four home runs, 10 RBIs, three walks, six runs scored and three stolen bases. The 10 RBIs led all IL players, with Etzel’s four bombs tying for second. He also ranked second in the circuit in slugging percentage (1.167) and OPS (1.643).
On the season, the League City, Texas native is batting .250/.349/.438/.787 with 17 doubles, two triples, 17 home runs, 55 RBIs, 57 walks, 64 runs scored and 21 stolen bases in 107 games. He ranks second on Jacksonville in both doubles and steals and third in both home runs and RBIs.
Etzel is the first Jumbo Shrimp position player to earn a weekly honor in 2026. Jumbo Shrimp left-handed pitchers Braxton Garrett (April 6-12) and Robby Snelling (April 27-May 3) and right-handed pitchers Brandon White (June 15-21) and Jace Beck (August 4-9) took home International League Pitcher of the Week honors earlier this year.
