MEMPHIS – A four-run Jacksonville sixth propelled the Jumbo Shrimp to a 5-4 victory on Wednesday over the Memphis Redbirds at AutoZone Park.

Memphis (67-55, 20-27) led 4-1 when Garret Forrester doubled with one out in the sixth. Maximo Acosta followed with an RBI single to put Jacksonville (61-59, 19-27) within 4-2. Cam Cannarella then greeted new reliever Brycen Mautz (1-6) with a single before Brayden Taylor walked to load the bases. An error then allowed to runs to score to tie the game. Mautz walked Kemp Alderman to load the bases and then issued a free pass to Matthew Etzel to force in a run, putting the Jumbo Shrimp ahead 5-4.

The Jacksonville bullpen locked things down from there. Matt Pushard (2-3) fanned three in 2.0 shutout innings and Wikelman González, Zach Brzykcy and Stephen Jones each tossed a scoreless frame, with Jones picking up his fifth save.

The Jumbo Shrimp opened up the scoring in the second. Johnny Olmstead walked with one out before a Brendan Jones single and Garret Forrester free pass loaded the bases. Acosta lifted a sacrifice fly for the game’s first run.

The Redbirds came back to tie in the third. Brody Moore reached on a one-out error before Noah Mendlinger walked. After a fielder’s choice put runners on the corners, a double steal allowed Moore to score the tying run.

Leo Bernal jumpstarted the fourth with a base hit before Nolan Gormal was hit by a pitch. Thomas Saggese cracked a three-run home run to give Memphis its first lead at 4-1.

Jacksonville and Memphis meet again in Thursday’s 7:45 p.m. ET first pitch. Coverage begins at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN 690AM and www.ESPN690.com.
