JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Former Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp left-handed pitcher Dax Fulton became the fourth Jacksonville alumnus in as many days to make his major league debut when he did so on Wednesday for the Miami Marlins against the Balitmore Orioles at loanDepot park.
Fulton filled a long-relief role for Miami, working 4.0 innings of relief. He yielded two runs on three hits with three strikeouts against a pair of walks in the Marlins’ 7-4 loss to the Orioles.
Originally selected by Miami in the second round of the 2020 draft out of Mustang High School (Mustang, Okla.), Fulton reached Jacksonville for the first time during last season’s run to the Triple-A National Championship. He made four starts for the Jumbo Shrimp following a promotion from Double-A Pensacola, striking out 19 in 16.1 innings. He began the 2026 campaign with Jacksonville, making five starts out of seven appearances, and registering 24 strikeouts in 20.0 innings of work.
The 2025 campaign was his first after missing the 2024 season due to an injury. Fulton had last pitched a full season in 2022, going 6-7 with a 3.80 ERA in 24 games, 23 starts, between High-A Beloit and Pensacola. He fanned 150 batters in 118.1 innings of work.
Fulton is the sixth Jacksonville alumnus to debut in the major leagues during the 2026 season, following infielder Deyvison De Los Santos (March 29, Marlins) and right-handers Matt Pushard (March 29, St. Louis Cardinals) and Josh Ekness (May 3, Marlins), catcher Joe Mack (May 4, Marlins) and right-hander William Kempner (May 5, Marlins). A total of 1,062 players have played both for Jacksonville and in the major leagues. The history of Minor League Baseball in Jacksonville dates back to 1904.
