NASHVILLE – Home runs from Matthew Etzel, Deyvison De Los Santos and Rece Hinds were not enough for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp on Sunday in an 8-4 loss to the Nashville Sounds at First Horizon Park.

The Sounds (50-37, 7-5) took the lead in the first inning and never looked back. Jett Williams singled on the contest’s first pitch from Jumbo Shrimp (49-37, 7-5) starter Dax Fulton (2-5) and stole second on the second pitch. Luis Lara walked before a double steal put runners on second and third. Luis Matos lined a double down the left field line to plate the pair and give Nashville a 2-0 lead.

Graham Pauley and Hinds started the second with base hits. They each advanced a base on a deep fly out to center before Gage Miller’s sacrifice fly put Jacksonville on the board.

With two outs in the bottom of the second, both Eduardo Garcia and Williams singled. Lara followed with a three-run blast to widen the gap to 5-1.

In the third, a pair of solo shots from Etzel and De Los Santos against Thomas Pannone (3-1) halved the deficit to 5-3.

Nashville answered in the bottom of the third. Brock Wilken walked, Greg Jones singled and Ethan Murray walked to load the bases with no one out. An infield RBI single from Darrien Miller added to the Sounds’ lead at 6-3. Jumbo Shrimp reliever Josh White entered the contest and was able to avoid further damage with a pair of strikeouts and a fly out to left.

A Hinds homer in the fourth drew Jacksonville within 6-4.

The score remained that way until the eighth. With two outs, Williams singled and Lara walked. Matos then smacked a two-run double to set the final margin at 8-4.
