Jacksonville and Syracuse suspended Thursday night

Teams will play de facto doubleheader Friday starting at 5:05 p.m.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Thursday’s contest between the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp and the Syracuse Mets was suspended in the top of the fifth inning due to inclement weather with Jacksonville leading Syracuse 3-2. The game will resume Friday at 5:05 p.m., with a seven-inning contest to follow 30 minutes after the completion of the suspended game. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. 

Fans who purchased tickets to Thursday’s game will be able to exchange their rainout ticket through their My Tickets account or by calling the Miller Electric Box Office at (904) 358-2846. 

Gates open at 4:30 p.m. for Red Shirt Friday in which fans can save $1 at the box office by wearing red to honor the military. Fans can enjoy $2 12-oz. Miller Lites for Friday Night Lites Happy Hour which will run from gates opening at 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Make sure to stay after the game for postgame fireworks, presented by Baptist Health.

Prior to the suspension, the Mets opened the scoring in the top of the first on a leadoff home run from Nick Morabito(12).

Jacksonville took the lead in the bottom of the first. Brendan Jones singled and Jonathon Long walked. Deyvison De Los Santos reached on an error and Jones scored the tying run. Long went to third on the error and Kemp Alderman walked, loading the bases. Two batters later, Johnny Olmstead drew a bases-loaded walk, putting the Jumbo Shrimp ahead 2-1.

The Mets tied the game in the top of the third. José Ramos reached on an error and went to third on two passed balls. He scored two batters later on a groundout from Morabito.

The Jumbo Shrimp regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Jones doubled and stole third. During the next at-bat, he scored on a passed ball putting Jacksonville in front.

Zack Short began the fifth with a walk and went to second on a sacrifice bunt from Morabito. A wild pitch put Short at third. During Vidal Bruján’s at-bat, the game went into a delay but would not resume.
