Jacksonville falls short 4-3 in series finale

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Despite 15 strikeouts from the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp pitching staff, the Syracuse Mets came away with a 2-1 win Sunday night at VyStar Ballpark.

Syracuse (59-60, 21-23) opened the scoring in the second. A fielder's choice coupled with a wild pitch put José Ramos on second. Hayden Senger followed with a base hit, plating Ramos to put the Mets ahead, 1-0.

Jacksonville (59-59, 17-27) responded with a run in the bottom of the second. Kemp Alderman (17) demolished a solo home run, tying the game at one.

After four scoreless frames, the Mets jumped ahead 2-1 in the seventh. A pair of singles from Zack Short and Ronny Mauricio put runners on first and third. Nick Morabito walked to load the bases and Eric Wagaman hit a sac fly, plating Short, giving Syracuse a 2-1 advantage.

Following an off day on Monday, the Jumbo Shrimp hit the road to begin a six-game series with the Memphis Redbirds that kicks off Tuesday from AutoZone Park at 7:45 p.m. ET.
