MEMPHIS – Both Bennett Hostetler and Deyvison De Los Santos homered as the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp won Tuesday’s series opener 6-5 in 10 innings at the Memphis Redbirds from AutoZone Park.

Jacksonville (60-59, 18-27) led 5-0 through two-and-a-half innings only for Memphis to eventually grind things to a 5-5 tie after eight frames. The Jumbo Shrimp took the lead for good in the 10th. With one out, Jonathon Long bashed an RBI double to plate zombie runner Maximo Acosta, putting Jacksonville ahead 6-5.

After Josh White (6-2) pitched 2.0 innings of relief, Mason Vinyard pitched a perfect bottom of the 10th to earn his first save.

The Jumbo Shrimp got off to a quick start. Cam Cannarella led off the game with a single, Long walked and De Los Santos singled to load the bases with no one out. A run scored on a double play before Brayden Taylor slugged an RBI triple to make it 2-0.

Hostetler led off the second with a home run to widen the gap to 3-0.

Long began the third with a walk before De Los Santos smashed a two-run shot to make it 5-0.

The lone Redbirds run against Jumbo Shrimp starter Brandon White came in the bottom of the third. Chase Davis singled and Ramon Mendoza was hit by a pitch to start the frame. After a sacrifice bunt, Ramos Urias’ RBI ground out cashed in Davis for the first Memphis run.

White went 6.0 innings, ceding that lone run on four hits with six strikeouts against one walk.

With White out of the game, the Redbirds notched a run in the seventh. Davis singled and Mendoza walked to jumpstart the inning before a Victor Scott II RBI single cut it to 5-2.

Memphis would rally to tie in the eighth. A César Prieto infield single coupled with a two-base error put a runner on third to begin the inning. Thomas Saggese lifted a sacrifice fly before Colton Ledbetter bashed a solo shot to draw the Redbirds within one. Davis then reached on a strikeout and passed ball, scoring two batters later to tie the game on Scott II’s RBI triple.

Jacksonville and Memphis meet again in Wednesday’s 7:45 p.m. ET first pitch. LHP Patrick Monteverde (3-2, 5.79 ERA) starts for the Jumbo Shrimp against Redbirds RHP/LHP Jurrangelo Cijntje (0-3, 6.29 ERA). Coverage begins at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN 690AM and www.ESPN690.com.
