JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Deyvison De Los Santos smacked his second last at-bat win of the series in Jacksonville’s doubleheader split with Memphis Thursday night, 4-3 and 11-4.
Jacksonville (52-51, 10-19) and Memphis (59-46, 12-18) traded zeroes in the first two frames of game two. The Jumbo Shrimp took their first lead in the bottom of the third. Garret Forrester started the inning with a walk and two batters later, Connor Norby (4) walloped a two-run home run putting Jacksonville in front 2-0. In the ensuing at-bat, Kemp Alderman walked and scored two batters later on a triple from Agustín Ramírez.
The Redbirds broke through in the top of the fifth. With one out, Thomas Saggese (7) crushed a solo shot off Jumbo Shrimp hurler Patrick Monteverde, cutting the deficit 3-1.
Memphis evened the contest in the top of the sixth. With one out, Ramón Mendoza and Colton Ledbetter knocked consecutive singles. Ledbetter stole second and both runners scored on a double from Noah Mendlinger, tying the game at three apiece.
After holding the Redbirds scoreless in the seventh and eighth, Jacksonville notched their second last at-bat win of the series. Norby began the eighth as the zombie runner at second. Alderman was intentionally walked and Deyvison De Los Santos plated Norby with an RBI single, sealing the Jumbo Shrimp’s 4-3 win.
Memphis took an early lead in game one and never looked back. With one out in the first, Joshua Baez doubled and scored on a two-run blast from Nolan Gorman (6) putting the Redbirds ahead 2-0. Saggese followed with a double. Leo Bernal plated Saggese on a triple and he scored on a fielding error, doubling the lead to four.
The Redbirds padded their lead in the second. With one out, Victor Scott II walked and scored on a two-run shot from Baez (32) pushing the advantage to 6-0.
Memphis lit up the scoreboard in the third. Saggese singled and stole second to begin the third. Three batters later, Mendoza drove him in with a base hit giving the Redbirds a seven-run advantage.
The Jumbo Shrimp broke through in the bottom of the fourth. Owen Caissie walked and scored on a two-run homer from Deyvison De Los Santos (12) cutting the deficit to five.
The Redbirds added a run in the fifth. Bernal walked with two outs and scored on a double from Chase Davis giving Memphis a six-run cushion.
In the sixth, Memphis continued their hot hitting. Brody Moore walked and went to second on a single from Scott II. César Prieto singled, scoring Moore from third for a 9-2 advantage. Baez followed with a two-run double giving Memphis a nine-run lead, 11-2.
Jacksonville fought in the seventh. Cam Cannarella walked and scored on a two-run blast from Caissie (2) cutting the deficit to 11-4.
Jacksonville and Memphis continue their series with Friday’s 7:05 p.m. contest. RHP Bradley Blalock (1-8, 6.26 ERA) will toe the mound for the Jumbo Shrimp and the Redbirds will counter with LHP Quinn Mathews (5-3, 3.13 ERA).
