WORCESTER, Mass. – The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp were throttled 15-1 on Thursday by the Worcester Red Sox at Polar Park.
The Red Sox (48-46, 12-11) jumped all over the Jumbo Shrimp (50-47, 8-15) from the very beginning. Nick Sogard led off the game with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch from Braxton Garrett (4-3). Nate Eaton was hit by a pitch before a ground out advanced both runners into scoring position. Andrew Knizner doubled both Sogard and Eaton in for the game’s first runs.
Jason Delay started the second with a triple. Tyler McDonough followed with an RBI single. Consecutive singles by Braiden Ward and Sogard loaded the bases. Two batters later, Mickey Gasper’s sacrifice fly made it 4-0.
Allan Castro began the third with a double before scoring on a Delay single. After McDonough walked, a double steal coupled with an error scored another Worcester run. After a pair of strikeouts, Eaton’s RBI single increased the margin to 7-0.
McDonough drew a leadoff walk in the fifth. Ward singled, and two batters after that, Eaton collected another RBI single.
The lone Jacksonville came in the sixth. Andrew Pintar singled before a ground out. Deyvison De Los Santos walked. Two batters later, Rece Hinds’ single cut the deficit to 8-1.
Eaton jumpstarted the seventh with a single and Gasper doubled. Knizer lashed an RBI single. Two batters after that, Castro blasted a three-run shot.
A three-run Knizner long ball in the eighth set the final margin at 15-1.
