JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Home runs from Maximo Acosta and Matthew Etzel were not enough as the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp fell to the Nashville Sounds 13-5 on Saturday night in front of 8,676 fans at VyStar Ballpark.
Nashville (71-59, 28-27) opened the scoring in the third. Jacob Hurtubise led off with a walk against Jumbo Shrimp (65-64, 23-32) reliever Karson Milbrandt (L, 0-7) and stole second. A two-run homer from Bo Naylor (11) gave Nashville an early 2-0 lead. Ethan Murray walked and Blake Burke was hit by a pitch. In the ensuing at-bat, Akil Baddoo (10) laced a three-run home run to give the Sounds a five-run advantage.
Jacksonville narrowed the deficit in the bottom of the third. Logan Driscoll roped a double to lead off the inning, followed by an RBI single from Jared Serna. A two-run blast from Acosta (3) scored Jacksonville’s second and third runs of the game.
The Sounds extend their lead in the fourth. Hurtabise walked and scored on a two-run bomb from Eduardo Garcia (4) to pad the lead, 7-3.
Nashville tallied another run in the eighth. Hurtubise led off with a single and Garcia was hit by a pitch. Brandon Lockridge walked to load the bases. A walk to Naylor allowed Hurtubise to score.
The Sounds added five insurance runs in the ninth. Baddoo singled to lead off the inning and was plated on Jeferson Quero’s (14) two-run homer. A pair of singles from Garcia and Lockridge put runners on first and second. Naylor doubled, scoring Garcia. With runners on first and second. Ethan Murray hit a two-run double to bring in the Sounds’ 13th run.
The Jumbo Shrimp tacked on two runs in the ninth. Kemp Alderman singled followed by an Etzel’s (16) two-run home run off Tyson Hardin (W, 4-4).
