LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Both Andrew Pintar and Gage Miller bashed three-run home runs on Wednesday as the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp bested the Gwinnett Stripers 6-3 in a rain-shortened game from Gwinnett Field.
With Gwinnett (56-53, 18-17) ahead 1-0, Cam Cannarella drew a leadoff walk against Herick Hernandez (1-1) to start the third. Jonathon Long followed with a single. After a pair of outs, Pintar blasted a three-run shot to center to put Jacksonville (55-53, 13-21) ahead.
The Jumbo Shrimp added to their lead in the fifth. Long led off with a walk. Following a line out and strikeout, Pintar singled. Miller then slugged a three-run bomb to left to widen the gap to 6-1.
The Stripers answered in the bottom of the fifth. Patrick Clohisy singled with one out before moving to second on a pickoff error from Patrick Monteverde (3-2). Kyle Farmer lashed an RBI single before Rowdy Tellez notched a base hit to put runners on the corners. A Carlos Santana sacrifice fly cut Jacksonville lead to 6-3.
Following the top of the sixth inning, the game was called because of persistent light rain.
Gwinnett initially got on the board in the second. Santana earned a leadoff walk before a fielder’s choice but DaShawn Keirsey Jr. on first. Keirsey Jr. stole second and advanced to third on a base hit from José Azócar before an RBI single by Jair Camargo plated the game’s first run.
Jacksonville and Gwinnett meet again in Thursday’s 7:05 p.m. contest. Coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. on ESPN 690 AM and www.ESPN690.com.
