JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp infielder Brayden Taylor has been named the Miami Marlins’ Next Wave Defensive Player of the Month for August, the Marlins announced Friday.
Taylor led all Marlins minor leaguers with 3.6 Outs Above Average in the month of August, playing 134.0 innings across three positions (nine games at second base, eight games at third base, and one game at shortstop). Among all Triple-A infielders, Taylor’s 3.6 OAA ranked sixth for the month of August.
A native of West Jordan, Utah, Taylor was acquired in an August 3 trade with Tampa Bay as part of the package for catcher Liam Hicks. In his 22 games with Jacksonville, Taylor has produced a .734 OPS with one double, two triples, two home runs, seven RBIs, 20 walks, 12 runs scored and six stolen bases.
Taylor is the fourth Jumbo Shrimp to earn a Marlins’ Next Wave Award in 2026. Brian Navarreto was the Fish of the Month for April, Andrew Pintar nabbed Hitter of the Month for May and Brandon White earned Pitcher of the Month for June. Former Jumbo Shrimp Ethan O’Donnell was named Hitter of the Month for April while playing for Double-A Pensacola.
