NORFOLK, Va. – Cam Cannarella homered, reached base four times and scored three runs on Thursday, but the Norfolk Tides walked off with a 10-9 victory over the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp at Harbor Park.
After the Jumbo Shrimp (67-66, 25-34) had taken a 9-7 lead in the top of the 10th, Jake Walkinshaw (1-2) induced Payton Eeles to ground out to start the bottom of the inning. José Barrero followed with an RBI single to score the zombie runner, Jud Fabian, pulling the Tides (51-81, 23-34) within one. Ryan Noda then doubled to put runner runners on second and third. Brandon Butterworth won it for Norfolk with a two-run base-hit.
The Tides got the scoring started in their first at-bats. Enrique Bradfield Jr. led off the game with a single before stealing both second and third. He scored two batters later on an Eeles sacrifice fly.
Jacksonville tied it in the second. Jonathon Long jumpstarted the inning with a single before advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt. He scored on Logan Driscoll’s RBI double.
The Jumbo Shrimp grabbed their first lead in the third. Cannarella led off with a home run. Brandon Compton singled and stole second before Juan Matheus walked. A double steal put both runners in scoring position. Two batters later, Johnny Olmstead’s sacrifice fly plated Compton. Matheus then scored on a wild pitch.
Norfolk rallied to tie in the bottom of the third. Bradfield Jr. and Fabian each doubled with one out, scoring a run. After a fly out, Barrero’s homer evened things at four.
Garret Forrester began the fourth with a walk. Brendan Jones then slugged a two-run shot to right-center to put Jacksonville back in front. Cannarella walked, Compton singled and Matheus walked to load the bases for Long, who lifted a sacrifice fly to make it 7-4.
The Tides’ rally started in the bottom of the fifth. Three straight singles from Fabian, Eeles and Barrero brought in a run. Eeles then scored on a wild pitch to make it a one-run game.
Bryan Ramos’ two-out bomb in the sixth knotted things again at seven.
The score remained that way until the top of the 10th. Compton led off with a double to plate Cannarella, who had started on second as the zombie runner. Two batters after that, a Long two-bagger brought in Compton for the Jumbo Shrimp to go up 9-7.
