JUPITER, FL – As part of Minor League Baseball’s monthly awards announcement, Jupiter Hammerheads infielder Echedry Vargas has been selected as the Florida State League Player of the Month for August.
Vargas slashed .386/.436/.867 and led the league in average (.386), hits (32), total bases (72), doubles (seven), home runs (11), RBI (30), slugging percentage (.867) and OPS (1.303). His 72 total bases led the league with 24 bases separating him and second place. In 22 games, Vargas recorded 11 multi-hit games and ended the month on a nine-game hitting streak. On August 26, he hit his 25th home run of the season, which broke Marcell Ozuna’s 14-year-old franchise record.
Vargas becomes the third Hammerhead this season to take home a Minor League Baseball monthly award after Manuel Genao took home Florida State League Pitcher of the Month for May and Andres Valor won Florida State League Player of the Month in July. Teammate and outfielder Jake McCutcheon also previously took home Florida State League Player of the Week on June 14 earlier this season.
In 100 games this season so far for Jupiter, the 23-year-old has 27 home runs, 91 RBIs and 23 doubles.
Vargas is in his second season with Single-A Jupiter (third in Single-A) and his fifth professional season. A native of Azua, Dominican Republic, Vargas originally signed as an international free agent with the Texas Rangers on January 15, 2022. He was traded to the Marlins organization on December 11, 2024, in exchange for infielder Jake Burger.
