JUPITER, FL – The Jupiter Hammerheads (20-26; 57-55) defeated the St. Lucie Mets (17-29; 50-62) by a final score of 3-1 on Saturday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. With the win, the Hammerheads win the series after taking four of the first five games and improve to 11-6 over St. Lucie this season.
In the bottom of the second inning, the Hammerheads scored the first run of the game against St. Lucie’s starting pitcher Joel Lara (L, 0-5). With runners at first and second base, Luis Cova blasted an RBI double down the left field line to give Jupiter a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the third inning, the Hammerheads got the insurance runs they needed. With two outs and a runner at second base, Jacob Lombard crushed an opposite-field home run, his second professional home run, as Jupiter took a 3-0 lead after three innings.
Meanwhile, Jupiter starting pitcher Dameivi Tineo (W, 2-5) was cruising through his first five innings pitched. However, in the top of the sixth, the Mets got on the scoreboard for the first time when Aiden Robbins hit his first professional home run, a solo home run to center field, to cut the Jupiter lead to 3-1.
Tineo finished six innings for the first time in his professional career and allowed just the one run on four hits, three walks, and struck out five batters.
The Jupiter bullpen shut down the St. Lucie offense in the final three innings of the game. Engel Peralta (H, 2) was the first man out of the bullpen for Jupiter and threw a scoreless top of the seventh inning despite allowing a walk and a single. Tristian Stevens (H, 1) made his third rehab appearance coming from Triple-A Jacksonville in the top of the eighth inning and set St. Lucie down in order in a scoreless frame. Yohanfer Santana (Sv, 1) entered the game in the top of the ninth inning for his Jupiter and Single-A debut and struck out two batters in a scoreless inning to secure the 3-1 victory for the Hammerheads on Saturday night.
Andres Valor finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a double, his league-leading 51st stolen base, and accounted for two of Jupiter’s five hits.
The Hammerheads and Mets take part in the series finale on Sunday, August 16 with first pitch scheduled for 12:30 p.m. After Sunday’s finale, the Hammerheads will play one more series against St. Lucie in the regular season between September 1-6.
