Hammerheads Hold Off Mets in 3-2 Victory on Friday Night

August 15th, 2026

JUPITER, FL – The Jupiter Hammerheads (19-26; 56-55) held on to defeat the St. Lucie Mets (17-28; 50-61) by a final score of 3-2 on Thursday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.

After a scoreless top of the first inning from Jupiter starting pitcher Elier Morillo, Cam Kozeal led off the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run to right field off St. Lucie’s starting pitcher Nathan Hall (L, 0-1) to give the Hammerheads the early 1-0 lead. For Kozeal, it was his second home run of the year, both of which have gone to the opposite field.

In the bottom of the second inning, the Hammerheads loaded the bases with two outs. Echedry Vargas hit a two-RBI single to left field to put Jupiter ahead 3-0 after two innings. It was Vargas’ league-leading 68th and 69th RBIs of the year.

Morillo finished his start with 3 2/3 innings pitched which was a season high. The lefty finished with a season-high eight strikeouts which tied a career high which Morillo has previously done twice in the Dominican Summer League. Luis De La Cruz (W, 3-2) came out of the Jupiter bullpen and tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief to keep it a 3-0 Hammerheads lead through the top of the sixth inning.

St. Lucie got on the board in the top of the seventh inning against Jupiter relief pitcher Davidson Lara (H, 1). Wyatt Vincent led off the inning with a double down the left field line and the next hitter, Dylan Carey, hit a two-run home run to make the score 3-2 still in favor of Jupiter.

Samuel Carpio (Sv, 6) entered the game on the mound for Jupiter in the top of the eighth inning, and despite allowing a one-out single, shut the Mets down on offense. Carpio stayed in for the top of the ninth inning and shut down the Mets and secured the 3-2 victory on Friday night.

The Hammerheads improved to 19-13 in one-run games and also improve to 10-5 over St. Lucie this season.
