JUPITER, FL – The Jupiter Hammerheads fell to the Tampa Tarpons by a final score of 4-1 in game two of the Florida State League Championship Series on Tuesday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium to force a winner-take-all game three on Wednesday night.
Game two started as a pitchers’ duel between Jupiter starting pitcher Dameivi Tineo (L, 0-1) and Tampa starting pitcher Wyatt Parliament (W, 1-0). Tampa loaded the bases with no outs in the third inning but failed to score. Jupiter had a runner on in each of the first three innings but could not cross home plate.
The Jupiter Hammerheads got the game’s first run on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth inning. Andres Valor led off the frame with an infield single and advanced to second base on a balk. After Jake McCutcheon grounded out to move Valor to third base, Carlos Sanchez hit a sacrifice fly to give Jupiter a 1-0 lead after five innings.
However, Tampa answered back in the top of the sixth inning. Dax Kilby led off with a double. After a strikeout, Wilberson De Peña hit an RBI single to left field to tie the game. Tineo was pulled from the game and Samuel Carpio came in to get the final two outs. Carpio issued two wild pitches and a passed ball during a walk to Anthony Potestio which allowed De Peña to score and give the Tarpons the lead. Carpio issued another walk and a hit to load the bases and was pulled without an out recorded. Jonas Uzcategui inherited the bases loaded and one out and got a clutch out by Valor in centerfield and a strikeout to end the frame without further damage as Tampa led 2-1.
Tineo finished his final start of the season with 5 1/3 innings pitched and allowed two runs, four hits, three walks, and struck out seven batters. Carpio was not charged with a run on his line.
In the top of the eighth inning, Tampa expanded on their lead. After Luis Puello led the frame off with a double, two walks loaded the bases. Jonathan Rosario entered the game and threw a wild pitch to plate an inherited run and gave the Tarpons a 3-1 lead. The Tarpons added another run in the top of the ninth inning. With two outs and runners at first and third base, Diego Castellanos hit an RBI single back up the middle to put Tampa ahead 4-1.
Jupiter brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the frame thanks to two walks, but Greyson Carter (SV, 1) struck out the final two hitters as the Hammerheads fell by the 4-1 final score in game two on Tuesday night.
