JUPITER, FL – The Jupiter Hammerheads (12-22, 49-51) fell to the Clearwater Threshers (19-14, 59-40) by a final score of 10-5 on Friday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. The Hammerheads end July at 8-16 for the month.
In the top of the second inning, Clearwater got out to an early lead against Jupiter starting pitcher Emmett Olson who made a rehab appearance from High-A Beloit in his first pitching appearance since June 3, 2025. Jonathan Hogart hit a two-run home run to left field, his second home run of the series, to put the Threshers on top. Olson was pulled after 1 1/3 innings pitched and Elier Morillo was the first Hammerhead out of the bullpen. Clearwater got an additional run as Victor Cardoza reached on an error which allowed Matthew Ferrara to score from third base and the Threshers took a 3-0 lead.
The Hammerheads got on the scoreboard for the first time in the bottom of the fourth inning against Clearwater starting pitcher Zuher Yousuf (W, 3-1). PJ Morlando led off with a single and Andres Valor drew a walk. After a double play moved Morlando to third base, Luis Arana hit an RBI infield single to cut the deficit to 3-1 after four innings.
Morillo finished his relief appearance tying a season-high 3 1/3 innings pitched and allowed no runs, one hit, three walks, and tied a season-high seven strikeouts in a no-decision.
In the bottom of the fifth inning with one out, Jake McCutcheon reached on an infield single. After advancing on a wild pitch, Jeremy Almonte hit a single to center field but McCutcheon was thrown out at home plate for the second out. However, Echedry Vargas absolutely crushed his team-leading 13th home run of the year, a two-run home run off of the Marlins’ clubhouse past the left field wall (108.8 miles per hour; 431 feet), to tie the game at 3-3 after five innings.
Clearwater retook the lead in the top of the sixth inning off of Jupiter relief pitcher Gerinton Mendez (L, 1-2). Mendez struck out two batters but allowed a bunt single and four walks which resulted in two runs for the Threshers before Engel Peralta came into pitch. Peralta allowed a grand slam to Will Gasparino, his first professional hit and home run to give the Threshers a commanding 9-3 lead.
Jupiter responded immediately back in the bottom of the sixth inning against Clearwater relief pitcher Jacob Pruitt. Valor launched a high, solo home run to left field, his 12th home run of the season, to get a run back and cut the deficit to 9-4 after six innings.
After the Threshers added an insurance run in the top of the eighth inning, the Hammerheads immediately responded. With two outs, Vargas launched his second home run of the game to left field, a solo home run to make the score 10-5 in favor of Clearwater. For Vargas, it was his first multi-home run game as a member of the Marlins organization and first since June 13, 2024 as a member of the Down East Wood Ducks, formerly of the Texas Rangers organization.
After the seventh inning, neither team scored and the Hammerheads eventually fell to the Threshers by the 10-5 score.
