Storm Allow Six Extra-Base Hits, Score Two in Seven Run Loss to Giants

August 19th, 2026

LAKE ELSINORE, CA - Despite three hits in Elliot Lascelles’ professional debut, Lake Elsinore couldn’t keep up with San Jose as the Giants ran away with a 9-2 win.

San Jose started off hot with a three-run first all courtesy of Jeremiah Jenkins. The first baseman slashed a homer over the right field wall to open the scoring and give the Giants a 3-0 lead.

SJ added two more in each of the fourth and fifth. First, Broedy Poppell ripped a two-run double down the right field line to extend the lead to five. Then an inning later, Rod Barajas Jr. slapped an RBI-double and Tanner Mally brought him in one batter later to push the score to 7-0.

The Storm got on the board later that inning after Dawson Willis smashed a triple to center. The outfielder came around to score on an Alex Conover groundout and Lake Elsinore cut the deficit to six.

LE added one in the sixth thanks to newcomer Elliot Lascelles. The 2026 Padres’ second round draft pick tallied three hits including a triple and then came in to score on a wild pitch.

“I was definitely a bit nervous to make my pro debut, but after the first half-inning I was feeling pretty good,” Lascelles said. “You only have one pro debut, so it was exciting and I’m happy it went so well.”

The 18 year-old also stole a base and recorded three putouts in his first game at the Single-A level.

It didn’t go as great on the scoreboard for the Storm as they would have hoped. Angel Guzman rounded off the scoring with a two-run bomb to dead-center to bring the game to its final 9-2 tally.

Lake Elsinore returns to action on Wednesday to face San Jose for game two of the six-game set from Diamond Stadium. This is the second series of the year between the Storm and the Giants with San Jose leading Lake Elsinore 4-3. The Storm will send RHP Cameron Nohos (3-7, 5.65) to the mound to face off against Giants RHP Argenis Cayama (3-2, 4.53). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. PT.
